E&R Church. Women's Guild. Synodical and Regional Guilds.
Scope and Contents
The Women's Guild was formally constituted on November 5, 1941 at its convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Immediately, the Guild recognized it would depend on the growth and active participation of local church guilds. The local church guilds organized themselves on both a regional and synodical level, the regional being smaller geographic areas and the synodical level corresponding to the synods of the E & R Church. The Women's Guild was active from 1941 until 1963 when it was united with its counterpart in the Congregational Christian Churches under the newly formed Council for Lay, Life and Work of the United Church of Christ. This collection consists of records of many of the synodical guilds and many of the regional guilds. It is organized alphabetically by synodical guilds with each then being sub-divided into its regional guilds. Records usually include minutes, programs, constitutions, financial records, and membership records. The collection is far from complete with few records from the midwest and west. Most complete are the guilds from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and North Carolina.

Biographical / Historical
The Women's Guild was the name given to the women's organization of the Evangelical and Reformed Church. The records in this accession represent a number of the Synodical and Regional level guilds and had been deposited in the archives at various times. The records were processed in 1993 and reprocessed in 2014 to include major additions from Southern Synod, Ohio Synod, and several individual donors. The general history of the Women's Guild is given in Accession E&R RG 1993.001. This accession consists of synodical and regional records. The Synodical Women's Guilds were organized during the fall of 1940, and the Regional Women's Guilds in the spring of 1941. These organizations continued to exist until 1961, when the Fellowship of Congregational Christian Women and the Women's Guild reorganized and became part of the Council for Lay Life and Work of the United Church of Christ. In some cases, the regional and local Women's Guilds continued beyond 1961.
