E&R Church. Commission on Benevolent Institutions.
Scope and Contents
The Commission on Benevolent Institutions had no paid staff but provided opportunities for the heads of member institutions to meet annually and exchange experiences and idea. However, the General Synod of 1959 recognized the need for a paid staff position, partly because of the rapid increase in institutions from 35 in 1940 to 51 in 1958, and authorized the position as well as authorizing the change in name to Commission on Health and Welfare Services.
The collection consists of minutes, 1938-1961; By-Laws; History, Publications; Reports; Standards for Agencies and institutions; Financial Records; and Correspondence.
The Minutes were given to the ERHS in 1992 by the UCC Commission on Health and Human Services.
