Biographical / Historical

Originally Emanuels Charge, later the Jefferson Evangelical Reformed Charge, and eventually the Jefferson Charge of the United Church of Christ, this charge existed from approximately 1864 to 1978. Jefferson Charge consisted of the following churches: Christ Church (Codorus, York County), St. Jacob's (Stone) Church (Brobecks, York County), and Shaffer's (Zion) Church (Hanover Junction or Seven Valleys, York County). The charge dissolved in 1978, when Christ Church became an independent church. In 1981, the Reformed congregation of Zion (Shaffers) Union Church disbanded and joined the Luthran Congregation now known as Zion's (Shaffer's) United Lutheran Church.
