Biographical / Historical

The Hill Reformed Church began as the Quittopahilla Hill Church. The Reformed congregation formed in the late 1730's. On December 13, 1743 a register was begun for the "Evangelical Lutheran Congregation at the Quitopahila" by Casper Stover. On August 12, 1744, this church joined in dedicating a union church. A new church was built in1837-1838. In 1903-1904 the Reformed withdrew and built their own church but not until 1958 did they yield to the Lutherans their rights in the old church property. The Lutheran congregation is Hill church, one mile north of Cleona; the reformed is Hill United Church of Christ, Hill Church Road, Cleona.
