Biographical / Historical
Trinity United Church of Christ (Leesport, PA) was first incorporated on Nov. 7th 1867 as Trinity German Reformed and Evangelical Lutheran Church of Leesport, PA. After land was secured by Adam Gernant, and funds in the amount of $4,517 were secured by Reuben Wanner, plans for a church edifice were drawn. Services began on July 7th 1868 under the Lutheran pastor Rev. Benjamin Zwitzig before the construction of the building was complete. Shortly after building completion, a fire destroyed the building and a new chapel was build in its place by 1874. Improvements to the building continued with the addition of a pipe organ in 1901, acetylene gas lights and a metal ceiling in 1908, and electric lights and steam heating in 1915. On July 1st 1957 after the merger of the Evangelical and Reformed Churches to form the U.C.C. the church was incorporated as Trinity United Church of Christ. Shortly after on July 28th 1957, construction began on a Sunday School building and Stoudt's Memorial Hall. From this time until the early2000's, church activities such as the Women's Guild, Sunday School and Youth Group flourished. Church leadership decided to disband the congregation and sell the church building in 2018 after a decline in membership to only 20 congregants. Reformed Ministers: Rev. L. V. B. Lieberman Rev.
