Biographical / Historical

The Charge included several different churches at different times and the churches were often listed in Reformed Church Classis minutes and for other years in Evangelical Synod Reports. The record book includes baptisms, marriages and deaths in various towns in Coshocton and Holmes Counties but no specific church names. The earliest church in Glenmont, Richland Township, Holmes County is St. John's which was a preaching station from 1832 to 1842 when Rev. Andrew Carroll became the first settled pastor. It is on Black Creek. This church appears in Reformed Church reports to St. John's Classis (later Southeast Ohio Synod) in 1842, 1843, 1846, 1864 to 1868, 1876 to 1883, 1887 to the present. It is reported to the Evangelical Synod, 1869 to 1874 and 1886. Up to the 1890's the Southeast Ohio Synod lists as pastors Andrew Carroll (1842-1846), F. Hunsche (1846-1866), G. Gekler (1866-1868), W. Wulfman (1868-1870), H. Ludwig (1871-1874), I. D. Nunnemacher (1874-1875), John Biery (1875-1883), Louis J. Fetzer (1885-1886), Frederick Mayer (1886-1891), then Hartzell, Selzer, Grether, Williams, etc. (p. 139 History of the Southeast Ohio Synod of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, 1963) St. John's in Kaylor Ridge, Knox Township, Holmes County, was organized in 1837. It last appears in Reformed Church Classis reports in 1843 with Andrew Carroll as pastor in 1843 as part of the Humbersville Charge. Rev. F. Hunsche is listed as pastor from 1846 to 1862. It is specifically reported as being in an Evangelical Protestant group, and later in the Lutheran Ohio Synod in 1862. Trinity church in Dutch Run (post office is Walhonding), Tiverton Township Coshocton County was organized in 1840 or 1843. It is probably included in the Black Creek Charge, St John's Classis reports for 1864 to 1868 and 1876 to 1883. Zion Church in Beaver Run, Jefferson Township, Coshocton County was established in 1844. It is listed as part of the Reformed Church Black Creek Charge 1864 to 1883. It is listed on the Evangelical Synod lists 1868 to 1891 but seems to have closed in 1891
