It was established as a union church (Reformed and Lutheran) and first called the Church on Beaver Creek, changing names to Clapp's or Klapp's Church, then to Brick Church. After meeting in a log school house for some time, the Reformed congregation, led by Rev. Samuel Suther, moved to a different school house and eventually built their own building.
