Biographical / Historical

Christ (Conewago) Reformed Church may have started as early as 1745. However, the church was not officialy organized until 1747 during a church service held in a schoolhouse by Michael Schlatter, when twelve families pledged money and grain for the salary of a minister. Initially, a log church was constructed, but in 1759, a patent for 37 acres of land was secured from John and Thomas Penn. In 1798, a brick church was erected and a major addition was constructed in 1877. In 1962, a new church was built with an educational building.
