Biographical / Historical
Science Hill UCC began about 1830 as a union church that was first pastored by a Lutheran minister, the Rev. John Jacob Fast. A log church was built in 1833. It was known as St. John's Congregation (Lexington Evangelical Church). The first Reformed pastor was Peter Herbruck, beginning in 1831. Membership dwindled after 1846, and from 1859 to 1899 there was no activity and no pastor. On October 28, 1899, the Rev. George F. Chenot, a Reformed minister, preached in the Science Hill school house, and a new church was dedicated in 1900. A parsonage was built in 1953, and an addition was built on the church in 1958. The congregation voted to withdraw from the UCC in 2006.
