The St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church collection consists of 9 boxes of materials including Bound Volumes of Church Records, Baptisms, Marriages and Deaths (Funerals),Financial Records, Legal Records, and Records pertaining to Auxiliary Organizations, Mary and Martha Missionary Society, Christian Endeavor Society, Sunday School Records, Men's Brotherhood. Committees, Church Histories, Consistory and Congregation Meeting Minutes, and Membership Lists.

Biographical / Historical
St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church was organized in 1872 with the unusual prerequisite that members may not be associated with any secret society. It was an independent congregation and advertised in the newspaper for a pastor. The Rev. W. E. Purpus, the only candidate, was elected. A church building was dedicated in 1874. English services were added in 1922, and in 1923 St. John's became a member of the Evangelical Synod of North America. A new church was built in 1925.
