Keller Reformed Church (Canoe Valley, PA)

The development of the Reformed faith in the Canoe Valley dates back to the year 1798 when John Dietrich Aurandt, a ministerial student, residing in Lewisburg, made a circuit through portions of Union, Huntingdon, Cumberland and what later became Blair County, preaching the gospel in every settlement. Rev. Aurand purchased a farm at Yellow Springs in 1804. The Keller Reformed church was located on land donated by John Keller. The cornerstone was laid on August 11, 1846 and work on the edifice progressed and was dedicated on Sunday January 22, 1847 Rev. Dr. Frederick A. Rupley and the pastor Rev. S. H. Reid had charge of the services. The Keller church continued to exert a vital interest in the historic valley until 1926 when the membership was so reduced in numbers that it was decided to dismiss the congregation and make the historic church and cemetery a shrine.
