Biographical / Historical
Immanuel's Church was organized February 27, 1839 as the German Lutheran Church on Charrette. A log church was built and the first worship held there was on February 2, 1840. In February 1848 a new constitution was written and the name was changed to German Evangelical Church on Charrette. At that time the church also joined the Kirchenverein (Church Synod). In 1851 a steeple and bell were added to the log church. Fire destroyed the log church on January 22, 1855, and brick church was completed in November of that year. That building was replaced by another brick church in 1884, and the name became German Evangelical Immanuel’s Church of Holstein. When the E&R merger occurred in 1934 it became Immanuel’s Evangelical and Reformed Church of Holstein.
