Biographical / Historical

St. Paul's Church was organized in 1874 when a group of 30 members broke away from the original First Lutheran Church. The new church was called the German Evangelical Protestant St. Paul's Congregation. A church was built on the northeast corner of Town Line Road and Broadway. In 1890 the congregation voted to incorporate under the name of United Evangelical Protestant St. Paul's Church of Alden, since it sat on the Alden side of Town Line Road. After Town Line Road and Broadway were widened, leaving little parking space, the congregation decided to move the church to a different property. Ground was broken for the new foundation in 1962 and a cornerstone laid in November 1964 during the 90th anniversary celebration. In 2010 the building was sold to Grace in Community Church and St. Paul's members dispersed to other churches.
