Biographical / Historical
St. Luke's Church is the outgrowth of a mission Sunday School established in the south-western section of Lancaster by students of the Lancaster Theological Seminary aided by female members of First Reformed Church and St. Stephen's Church in 1874. The church was organized in 1879 with Jacob F. Wiant as the pastor, but in 1880, after he left, William F. Lichliter became pastor. They worshipped in the public school house or in the Humane Hose House on Manor Street until the church building was erected in 1880 on Marietta Avenue. The church building was enlarged in 1888; extensive alterations were made in 1924 and a parsonage was added the same year. In 1958, there was the addition of an education building. The church merged with Trinity Church (East Petersburg, PA) in 2015 and the church property was sold. Trinity Church will continue to hold some church records and allied materials. Dates of Note: 1886 - Separate services scheduled in German with student from the Lancaster Theological Seminary officiating. 1888 - Committee formed to consider building addition. Church Charter Members: - Mrs. Mary Wiant - Mrs. Mary E. Suter - J. Rudolph Suter - J. Fred Suter - Jacob Bomberger - B. F. Bausman - Mrs. Senette Miller - Mrs. Catherine Mischler - Phillip Mischer
