Biographical / Historical

Growing out of the Sunday school movement in 1905, Grace Reformed began holding meetings at the Eden Village meeting house. Under the leadership of W.L. Jacoby, the petition to the Lancaster Classis was granted; a congregation was organized on June 2, 1912. A Women's Guild was established and the church received its charter in 1913. The congregation quickly outgrew it's small log structure. In 1916 a cornerstone for a new building along Route 23, east of the village center was laid. The new church was dedicated on November 3, 1917 with the Rev. Jeremiah R. Rothermel serving as the first regular pastor. A A parsonage was built in 1941, the interior of the church building was renovated in 1953, and more Sunday school space was added in 1956. By 1970, the congregation approved the building of larger facilities and the new building was dedicated in 1971. In 2004 the congregation voted to be an Open and Affirming congregation. Celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 2012. Church building was sold in 2020 but the congregation is still active as of 2021. Pastors R.J. Rothemel: 1915-1918 W.S.
