Biographical / Historical

The Funkstown Reformed Congregation was established by 1773, and perhaps earlier. Originally a Union Church with the Lutheran congregation, the parishes separated in 1850, with the reformed congregation continuing to worship in the building opposite the community cemetery. Following its destruction by fire, the cornerstone of a new building was laid in 1860 on the site on East Baltimore St. Fire again destroyed the church in 1930. The new church was erected and dedicated in 1931. Christ Church Funkstown, MD merged with Church of the Holy Trinity UCC, Hagerstown MD 1967
