Biographical / Historical
Messiah Church began as Messiah Mission in 1888 in a house at 936 Cantrel Street. In 1891 a lot was purchased at 9th and Snyder Avenues and the first service was held in the chapel there on Easter Sunday, 1892, the official year of its organization. In 1901 a lot was purchased at 13th and Wolf Streets and a new church was erected there. Messiah United Church of Christ withdrew from the denomination about 2000-2003.
