Biographical / Historical

Henry Haverstick Ranck was born July 24, 1868 near Lancaster, PA., the son of Jacob Eby Ranck and Martha Bausman Haverstick Ranck. He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1892 and from Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1895. He also studied at Union Seminary and Columbia University in New York. He received his D.D. from F&M in 1916. On May 5, 1895 he was licensed by Lancaster Classis, Eastern Synod and on December 5, 1896 he was ordained by Carlisle Classis, Potomac Synod. He served three months as supply pastor at Greencastle Charge in 1895, then in the following pastorates: St. Paul's Church, Mechanicsburg December,1896-February, 1899; St. John's, Lebanon, PA. , 1899-1901; St. Andrew's, Reading, PA. 1901-1914; Grace, Washington, D.C. 1914-1939. He married Mary Hill Byrne April 22, 1897. They had two children. He died in Lancaster August 19, 1948
