Biographical / Historical

Gilbert J. Bartholomew was born Febrary 28, 1914 in Catasauqua, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Edwin and Meda Bartholomew. He graduated from Ursinus College in 1938 and married Emma A. Leinbach in June of that year. From Lancaster Theological Seminary he received his BD 1938 and D. Min. in 1985. He received a Master of Sacred Theology degree from Temple University in 1947. He began his ministry at St. John's Church, Pottstown and St. Paul's, Stowe mission congregations, which became self-supporting in 1945. He served St. John's Church, Orwigsburg until 1952. Again he accepted a call to a mission at Woodcrest congregation in Philadelphia which he served from 1952-1957. From 1957-1963 he was at Lowell UCC, Canton, Ohio. Then he served St. Paul's UCC, Westminster, Maryland until his retirement in 1979. In retirement he served as supply and interim pastor at numerous congregations in and around Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He died October 29, 2003 in Wernersville, Pennsylvania.
