Scope and Contents

The Heilman Family collection consists of one box of biographical information, correspondence, writings, and a photograph album. There are a number of Allied Materials located in Locked Case 1, Box B-1, #11, including Baptismal Certificates, Marriage Certificate, Fraktur and Broadsides.

Biographical / Historical

John Heilman (1814-1887), married Catherine Heilman (1811-1887). Samuel P. Heilman, born in 1842. Uriah Henry Heilman (1838-1932). Born March 2, 1838 at Heilmandale, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, to John and Catherine (Heilman) Heilman. Attended Annville Academy, Mercersburg Collegiate Institute, Cumberland Valley Institute, Franklin and Marshall College (1856-1860), and Lancaster Theological Seminary (1860-1862). He was licensed by the Lebanon Classis, August 29, 1862, and ordained by the same Classis April 9, 1863. His pastorates included: First Reformed Church, Hamburg, PA. (1863-1864); Swatara Charge, Jonestown, PA. (1864-1868); Salem Reformed Church, Doylestown, PA. (1868-1869); Lewisburg Charge, PA. (1869-1873); without Charge 1873-1876; Duncannon Charge, PA. (1876-1881); St. Paul's Reformed Church, Mechanicsburg, PA. (1881-1886); Church of the Incarnation, Emmitsburg, Maryland, (1886-1892); retired October 1892. After retirement, he was a teller in the Jonestown PA. Bank and later Assistant Cashier, retiring again in 1908. He and his wife moved to Lebanon, PA. in 1911 and resided there until his death. Married Emma Meily of Jonestown, PA., November 27, 1867, they had no children. He was awarded Honorary Doctor of Divinity by Franklin and Marshall College in 1923. Published 5 papers which had been read before the Lebanon County Historical Society.
