Biographical / Historical
Paul Traeger was born August2, 1872 in Leipzig, Germany. His father's name was Ernest and his mother was Emilie (Mueller). He came to the United States in 1891 and received his college and seminary courses at Mission House and graduated in 1895. He was licensed and ordained in 1898 Chicago Illinois, Chicago Classis, Northwest Synod. He served the First Reformed Church in Chicago from 1898 until 1901. From 1901 until 1908 he served at the Silver Creek Reformed Church in Ridotto, Illinois; Bethany Reformed Church in Baxter, Iowa from 1908-1921; professor of French and German at Mission House 1921-1932 and Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, Nebraska 1932-1945. In 1923 he received his degree of Master of Arts and in 1926 his degree of Doctor of Philosophy. He received both degrees at Mission House. Among his denominational offices which he held were: clerk of the Chicago Classis 1901-1908; president of Ursinus Classis in 1911-1912; president of the Synod of the Northwest, 1922-1925; member, Board of Central Publishing House, 1929-1932. He was married to Dora Mahloch and had one son named Edgar and four daughters named Edna Dora, Clara Estella, Gertrude Ethel and Esther Anna. He also had two other sons, Theodore who was born 1899 and died 1915, and Calvin born in 1910 and died in infancy. Dr. Traeger died on January 15, 1945 in Sutton Nebraska.
