Biographical / Historical

John Richard Glatfelter was born in York, PA in 1927. He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1948, earned B.D. and M. Div. degrees from Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1951 and 1976 respectively. He was ordained in 1951 by Mercersburg Synod, then spent four years at Ardmore Union Church near Washington, D.C. His next pastorates were: Faith, New Cumberland, PA, eight years; St. John's, Emmaus, PA, four years as co-pastor. In 1966 he moved to the Cincinnati, Ohio area as a new church developer. He accepted a call the the Development and Seminary Relations Office at Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1980, and retired in 1992. During the last seven years he served as Vice President of the Seminary.
