Biographical / Historical

The Phoebe Home was chartered in 1903; the dormitory was erected in 1911; the administration building was erected in 1930; the dormitory was remodeled in 1937; and an infirmary was added to the west wing in 1950. The Home acquired the Devitt Camp, a former tuberculosis camp, in 1955. Residents of the Devitt Home were moved to a new location for the combined Phoebe and Devitt homes in Allentown in 1968. An east wing infirmary was built at that time. Phoebe Apartments were constructed in 1972. The 1980's and 1990's saw the addition of Phoebe Terrace continuing care community, Phoebe Berks Village retirement community near Wernersville, and Devitt House apartment complex in Lewisburg.
