Biographical / Historical

Mercersburg Female Institute was organized when Mrs. Young's Select School for Girls moved from York to Mercersburg in 1848. It was known as Locust Grove School, then Mercersburg Female Institute, then Mercersburg Female Seminary. In 1880 the building became a private residence. Source: Internet search.
