Biographical / Historical
Central Theological Seminary was established by Ohio Synod at Tiffin, Ohio in 1850 as the theological department of Heidelberg College. It was incorporated as Heidelberg Theological Seminary in November, 1888. In 1907 Ohio Synod approved a merger between Heidelberg Theological Seminary and Ursinus Central Theological Seminary, which had its beginnings as a college in 1874. The united school was given the name Central Theological Seminary. It opened September 11, 1907 at Heidelberg College in Tiffin. It the following year it moved to Dayton. In 1934 the Ohio Synod approved another merger between Central Seminary and Eden Seminary.
