Biographical / Historical
Fairview Park Hospital opened by ministers and members of Reformed Churches of Cleveland in 1892 as "The Society for the Christian Care of the Sick and Needy." In 1894 is was located in rented property at 1212 Scranton Road and was called "Bethesda Deaconess Home." That same year it moved to Franklin Circle and became "The German Hospital and Polyclinic of the City of Cleveland.” In 1896 it moved to 3305 Franklin Blvd. in the area known as Franklin Park, and was renamed "The German Hospital." In 1916 it was rechristened "Fairview Park Hospital." In 1955 it moved to 18101 Lorain Avenue. The name was changed again in 1967 to "Fairview General Hospital." The hospital never was owned by the church, but retains a strong affiliation with the United Church of Christ.
