Biographical / Historical

Palatinate College was founded as a high school by the Classis of Lebanon in the old Myerstown Academy building on April 18, 1867. A college building was erected the same year and the college was incorporated in 1868. The institution had debt problems from the start and in 1884 a group of stockholders, the Palatinate College Association, Ltd., was organized to deal with the problem. The college was still an institution of the church, but Lebanon Classis no longer carried the debt. In a1896 lack of enrollment resulted in the sale of the college to the United Evangelical Church, and it became part of Albright College.
