Biographical / Historical
Detroit, Michigan society formed in February 1914 as the Evangelical Deaconess Society with the first three-story building being built on E. Jefferson in 1917. The School of Nursing closed in 1972 and the original building has been demolished. The hospital later merged with St. Joseph Mercy in 1978 to form Samaritan Health Center and later bacme Mercy Hospital of Detroit in 1991.
