Biographical / Historical

Grace United church of Christ, Keysville, MD began with a gift of a half-acre of land, a part of the “Terra Rubra” estate by Francis Scott Key in 1828, as the deed states “For School and church purposes”. In that same year was erected the first building, occupied on weekdays by the Community School and on Sunday in rotation, by four groups of church people, Lutheran, Methodist, United Brethren and Reformed. The State Public School System gave up the building in 1868 to buy a new tract of land and build a new school. By June 2, 1919, the Reformed Church bought the last share of the church from the Lutherans for a sum of $500.
